The West Coast Knitters’ Guild seeks to help various charitable organizations that can benefit from handmade items. We want to extend this goal into Woolith Fair, and invite Crawlers to help us help others. In 2016, Woolith Fair Crawlers supported Knitted Knockers Canada by knitting or crocheting knockers, and dropping them off at participating LYSs during and after Woolith Fair.
For Woolith Fair 2017, we have chosen Variety – The Children’s Charity of British Columbia as our recipient. As one of their many activities, Variety – The Children’s Charity collects handmade blankets and distributes them to Ronald McDonald House, The Easter Seals House, and other similar organizations.
We are asking Crawlers to help us support this blanket drive by knitting or crocheting an 8″ square using a soft, acrylic based yarn. You can use any pattern or thickness of yarn, provided it is mostly acrylic (and therefore machine washable), and soft to the touch. After the crawl, we will be collecting the squares and then holding Seaming Sessions, where we will join the squares together into blankets.
Please identify your square with the type of yarn you used so that we can more easily match up squares of similar fibres. Bring your completed squares to any of the Passport Stops on Woolith Fair. Should you wish to make complete blankets, you can do that too – please feel free to contact us for more information. If you want to donate handmade blankets after Woolith Fair has ended, please contact the West Coast Knitters’ Guild.
